Stock: stores, transfers, counts and adjustments

How on-hand quantities are calculated and how to move, count and correct stock.

One movement ledger

Every receipt, sale, transfer, count and adjustment is a movement; the on-hand quantity and the moving-average cost are calculated from those movements, so the history is always explainable. Inventory → Movements shows it per item and location.

Opening stock

  1. Inventory → Adjustments → New, reason "Opening stock": pick the store, add each item with its quantity and unit cost, then post. Do one adjustment per store.

Transfers and counts

  1. Transfers move stock between stores and warehouses; both sides see it at once.
  2. Counts: open a count for a store, enter counted quantities, review the variances, then post.
  3. Adjustments correct stock outside a count and always carry a reason.
