Selling on the register — and what happens offline

Opening a shift, ringing up sales, returns, PIN switching, and how the till keeps working without internet.

Open a shift

  1. On the device, open /pos and choose this device's register (once; the device remembers it).
  2. Tap Open shift, enter the opening float and confirm.
  3. Sell by scanning a barcode, typing a name or SKU, or tapping a tile. Category chips filter the tiles.

Payments and receipts

  1. Tap Pay, choose Cash, Card or split the amount between methods; change is calculated for cash.
  2. The receipt appears at once and can be printed or saved as a PDF. Receipt numbers are register-shift-sequence, e.g. R01-0003-0012.

Returns

  1. Tap Return, enter or scan the original receipt number, pick the lines and quantities, choose the refund method.
  2. Stock goes back to the register's store; the sale keeps a record of what was returned.

Offline

Sales, returns and shift open/close are saved on the device first and sent to the server in order when the connection is back. The sync chip in the top bar shows how many are waiting. Nothing is lost when the power or the internet goes; the register even opens without connectivity because it caches the catalogue and the app itself.

If the server rejects a sale (for example a product that was archived while the till was offline), the chip turns red and shows the reason so a manager can ring it again.

Cashier PIN

Managers set a PIN per user under Settings → Users. On the register, tap the cashier name to switch; five wrong attempts lock the PIN for a while. Sales record who sold them.
